WHAT IS HIGH FRICTION ROAD SURFACING?
High friction road marking, also known as High Friction Surfacing (HFS) or anti-skid surfacing, is a specialised road treatment designed to increase surface friction and skid resistance. It is a vital safety measure to reduce accidents and improve vehicle control, particularly in high-risk areas prone to wet or slippery conditions.
BENEFITS OF HIGH FRICTION ROAD SURFACING
-
Reduces braking distances, allowing drivers to stop more quickly and safely
-
Improves vehicle control during cornering and sudden manoeuvres
-
Lowers the likelihood of accidents, including rear-end collisions
-
Provides reliable skid resistance in high-risk areas
-
Enhances safety in wet or adverse weather conditions
-
Supports safer traffic flow where vehicles need to slow down or change direction rapidly

HOW HIGH FRICTION SURFACING WORKS
HFS consists of a thin layer of resin binder combined with durable, high Polished Stone Value (PSV) aggregate, such as calcined bauxite. This creates a textured surface that provides superior grip for vehicle tyres, ensuring better traction and safety even in wet or adverse weather conditions where conventional surfaces may be slippery.
